Missional Living is a priority at Dauphin Way UMC. Acts 1:8 empowers individuals to “be [Jesus’] witness in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Through our Connectional Giving (formerly known as Apportionments), personal engagement of service teams, ongoing partnership giving, and disaster response, Dauphin Way UMC provides the witness of faith, hope and love to those in need locally and globally.

Meals-On-Wheels

The Meals-On-Wheels program is a 35 year-old volunteer arm of the Compassion Ministry of Dauphin Way UMC.

The area covered by our MOW program is:
Broad Street (west) to I-65
I-10 (north) to Springhill Ave.

To qualify for meal delivery, a person should be home bound and unable to drive, due to age, infirmity, or disability. Our interviewers make home visits initially to determine eligibility and to record all information needed for addition to the program.

  • Meals are delivered Monday thru Friday by volunteer drivers. The food is prepared by volunteers at Dauphin Way’s kitchen. Volunteers serve the food for delivery.
  • Daily meals include a hot balanced meal for lunch along with a sandwich and fruit or yogurt for supper.
  • Recipients pay $3 per day for meals. Payment is made each Monday to the driver or by the month. Our congregation subsidizes the remainder of the cost for each meal; each meal costs $5-$6.
  • The church observes all major holidays and does not deliver meals on those days. Notices are sent to recipients so they can plan for alternative food on those days.

To see if you qualify or to volunteer to cook, serve, or drive, please call the church receptionist (251) 471-1511, Monday thru Friday from 8am to 5pm.

The lay leaders are Angela Crowell (343-0735) . Kathy Jorgensen is our staff contact.

Society of St. Stephen

The Society of St. Stephen is a Dauphin Way ministry that helps individuals or families with utilities bills, food and clothing vouchers. You may phone (251) 479-4827 at any time to listen to a brief informational recording; one thing this recording will do is to direct you to phone the same number on a Tuesday morning between 9:00 – 9:45 for an appointment on Monday or Tuesday morning of the following week. Or, if you wish, you may skip listening to the recoding and just phone on Tuesday morning (9:00 – 9:45) for an appointment. You will be given specifics at the time of your Tuesday morning phone call.

This program provides some assistance with utilities bills but not the telephone. We have food assistance and clothing vouchers. Bring a picture ID and your utility bill with you to your appointment. The Society of St. Stephen is closed on holidays and during Christmas season – please phone ahead.

During the Christmas season Dauphin Way members adopt families to donated toys for the children in needy families. The families must register through Catholic Social Services.

A volunteer works at the church on Monday or Tuesday morning. They interview clients and help them with their needs. Training is available before becoming a SSS worker.

Staff contact Kathy Jorgensen.

International Missions

As of now, we are unable to plan International Mission Trips due to safety and travel precautions. If this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of, we would love to have you join the team. Please email Dr. Woods Lisenby if you have any questions!
